Congo

Was listening to Melt last night and it is a superb album. Bit dark and twisted in places, but very inventive and some cracking songs on there like Family Snapshot and Intruder.

Congo, I love his work, some pretty dark stuff and Biko is a brilliant track

Re: Genesis
Been prompted by the film to listen to Peter Gabriel's solo stuff for the first time in years and IMHO his best stuff is streets ahead of anything the rump of Genesis were doing at the same time.

Wright was Dave Gilmour's bestest mate in the whole wide world. His scabbing firing by Waters explains the band's break-up, the reformation without Waters, their refusal to ever readmit Waters since, and their refusal to countenance readmitting him in the future.

Look at Gilmour and Wright's body language towards Waters at Live8. It tells the whole story.

Re: Genesis
I just looked it up, he was re-engaged on that basis after leaving. Ironically it meant he profited from the tour for The Wall while the other three made a loss.

Re: Genesis
That was all down to that utter cunt Roger Waters wasn't it?

Re: Genesis
I think that was quite common. Wasn't Rick Wright an employee of Pink Floyd rather than a full member?

Re: Genesis
Apparently, when Collins left Chester applied for the job but they wouldn't give him full band membership

Banks?

Re: Genesis
Yes mate, he differed hugely from the way Gabriel, Rutherford and Collins came across. They seemed to enjoy being there in each others company and came across as warm and friendly, whereas Banks seemed to have a broomstick up his arse the whole time.

I also got the impression Hackett left because of Banks, but felt he was doing the honourable thing by closing ranks.

Re: Genesis
P, humourless is how I would describe Banks

Steve P 10:23 Tue Oct 7
Re: Genesis
Banks seemed to me to feel like he owned the Genesis brand and wouldn't allow Gabriel to do what he liked very easily. He even said that 'The Lamb' was his least favourite period with Genesis.

Re: Genesis
Nothing about the Ray Wilson and Nir Zidkyahu era I noticed?

Dr Congo 10:04 Tue Oct 7
Re: Genesis
Banks came across as pathologically jealous of Gabriel's artistic recognition and Collins commercially.

Seemed thoroughly obnoxious even by rock star standards. It doesn't help that he looks so much like Tony Blair.

Re: Genesis
Probably a few of you purists won't be overboard about ' Land of Confusion 'but in terms of Post Gabriel , I thought it was alright .
Still nothing gets close to' Suppers Ready' or ' Forth of Fifth ' IMHO .

Watching the documentary now. Very interesting.
I too will be seeing Gabriel at Wembley in December and Hackett at the Cliffs later this month.

Re: Genesis
Interesting that Gabriel never really carried on with his weird costumes with his solo career, although some of the music was very dark?
-------------

When he left he was keen to distance himself from his past, refusing to even play any Genesis stuff at his own shows, always saying that he wanted to look forward not back.

I think this is a bit ironic now, because songs he was refusing to play for that reason back then, were a hell of a lot younger than his own early solo stuff is now that he still happily plays live today.

His current tour is based around playing the nearly 30 year old 'So' album in it's entirety.

Not complaining though. I shall be at Wembley to see him in December.
